Privacy Policy

Last updated: March 20, 2026

Overview

WikiGuard (“we,” “us,” or “our”) is a Wikipedia monitoring service. We respect your privacy and are committed to transparency about the limited data we handle. We have no interest in collecting, selling, or storing personal data beyond what is strictly necessary to provide the service.

What We Collect

We collect only the minimum data required to operate the service:

  • Account information: Your name and email address, provided through our authentication provider (Clerk). We do not store passwords.
  • Monitored pages: The list of Wikipedia page URLs you choose to monitor and their associated settings (check interval, custom name).
  • Change logs: Records of detected changes to your monitored Wikipedia pages, including revision IDs, timestamps, editor names (public Wikipedia data), and diff summaries.
  • Notification preferences: Your email and browser notification settings.
  • Payment information: Handled entirely by Stripe. We never see, store, or process your credit card numbers or banking details.

What We Do Not Collect

  • We do not use tracking cookies. For basic website analytics (page views, referrers), we use Plausible Analytics — a privacy-first, cookieless tool that collects no personal data and does not track individual users
  • We do not collect browsing behavior or usage patterns beyond basic service functionality
  • We do not sell, rent, or share your personal data with third parties for marketing purposes
  • We do not store your passwords (authentication is handled by Clerk)

How We Use Your Data

Your data is used solely to:

  • Provide the Wikipedia monitoring service you signed up for
  • Send change notification emails when edits are detected on your monitored pages
  • Process payments through Stripe for your subscription
  • Provide customer support if you contact us

Third-Party Services

We rely on the following third-party services, each with their own privacy policies:

  • Clerk — Authentication and user management
  • Stripe — Payment processing and subscription billing
  • Wikimedia API — Fetching publicly available Wikipedia content and revision data
  • Plausible Analytics — Privacy-focused, cookieless website analytics (no personal data collected)

Data Retention

We retain your account data and change logs for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we will remove your personal data within 30 days. Anonymized, aggregated data (e.g., total change counts) may be retained for service improvement.

Your Rights

Regardless of where you are located, you have the right to:

  • Access the personal data we hold about you
  • Request correction of inaccurate data
  • Request deletion of your account and associated data
  • Export your data in a portable format

To exercise any of these rights, contact us at [email protected].

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify registered users of material changes via email. Continued use of the service after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
